The Game of Life

Another life enriching book that I would like to share with you is "The Game of Life and How to Play it" by Florence Scovell Shinn, born on September 24, 1871, in Camden, New Jersey. She was educated at Friends Central School in Philadelphia. She later studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts from 1889 to 1897.

Florence published her first book “"The Game of Life and How to Play It"” in 1925. Her second book, “Your Word is Your Wand” followed in 1928 and her final book “The Secret Door to Success” was published in 1940 shortly before her death on October 17, 1940. A fourth book, “The Power of the Spoken Word” is a compendium of her notes, gathered by one of her students and published posthumously in 1945.

This book opened my awareness more on how the power of mindset affects our lives. This might be a precursor to the Law of Attraction video that I've also shared in this blog. From the time we are born our mindset has been conditioned by our experiences and the people we come into contact with. These layers of encounters creates an imprint in our whole being. However, "The Game of Life" adds more life enriching explanation on how we can shape our future and live extraordinary lives with the assistance of the three departments of our mind, the conscious (carnal mind), subconscious (soul) and superconscious (spirit). The spirit as explained in the book is God given and the most powerful. To activate our superconscious realm, we must polish first our mind and second our soul.

The first chapter of the book explains life as a game that cannot be played successfully without the knowledge of spiritual law based from the Bible teachings which is about Giving and Receiving. Additional excerpt from the book says " Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also reap. This means that whatever man sends out in word or deed, will return to him; what he gives, he will receive. If he gives hate, he will receive hate; if he gives love, he will receive love; if he gives criticism, he will receive criticism; if he lies he will be lied to; if he cheats he will be cheated. We are taught also, that the imaging faculty plays a leading part in the game of life."

Experience awakening, transformation and manifestation by reading this life enriching book "The Game of Life" by Florence Scovel Shinn. Worth reading and highly recommended.

Follow the Golden Rule

Last weekend I had a date with my eldest daughter at Mall of Asia in Pasay. As it was too hot to stay outside of the mall, we decided to chill a bit inside FullyBooked where we browsed through several magazines and books. I came across Ethics 101 and found this book really an eye opener. It basically strengthen my belief more that I am in the right path with my decision not to go abroad to earn big for my family, when i read - "People who go for the golden rule .. sacrifices finances for family. People who go for the gold.. sacrifices family for finances".

Below are some part of the book that I really love to share.

"I believe there are two basic faith to achievement a person can choose. You can go for the gold, or you can go for the golden rule" . by John C. Maxwell

The Golden Rule:  "Do unto others, what you want others do unto you."

People Who Go for the Gold
People Who Go for the Golden Rule
Ask, “What can you do for me?”
Ask, “What can I do for you?”
Make convenient decisions.
Make character decisions.
Sacrifice family for finances.
Sacrifice finances for family.
Develop a rationale for their actions.
Develop relationships with their actions.
Possess a “me first” mind-set.
Possess an “others first” mind-set.
Count their dollars.
Count their friends.
Base their values on their worth.
Base their worth on their values.
